Jennifer Mootz, PhDMember, Health Equity CoreEmail: jennifer.mootz@nyspi.columbia.eduJennifer Mootz, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University, and a Research Scientist at the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene/New York State Psychiatric Institute. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman's University in 2015. She specializes in digitization of evidence-based treatments for task-shifted delivery by nonspecialized providers among marginalized populations. She has partnered with community and governmental agencies in low-resource and disaster-affected settings in low- and middle-income countries and the U.S. to conduct research on the implementation of comprehensive mental health care scale-up and development of technology to improve the delivery of mental health services. Comprehensive scale-up has included implementation of Interpersonal Counseling for common mental disorders. Jennifer has received a K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award from NIMH to treat common mental disorders in women in Mozambique by addressing intimate partner violence in couples with couple-based interpersonal psychotherapy. As part of her role in leading technology development for the Mental Wellness Equity Center in NYC, she is leading projects to adapt a provider-guided application developed in Mozambique for local task-shifted providers and to develop an mHealth tool that will include self-guided modules for adolescents and young adults. Jennifer was honored to receive two awards from the American Psychological Association for her global research and was identified as one of 35 "emerging psychologists" across 22 different countries by the International Congress of Psychology.Education and TrainingPhD, Texas Woman's University
